Press Glass together with Guardian Glass supports the construction of a home for the families of children staying at the Paediatric Hospital of the Medical University of Warsaw

Press Glass together with Guardian Glass, one of its global glass suppliers, joins the group of construction partners of the second Polish «Home away from home” during a child’s illness. The house will be built on the campus of the Medical University of Warsaw. Construction began in September 2019.

We are aware that, especially now, oncology in Poland needs comprehensive support. When small patients and their loved ones take on the biggest challenge in their lives, providing comfortable spaces for the family — Home outside the home — means keeping families close and focus on the most important goal — to regain the child’s health. We believe that glass delivered few days ago is a symbolic gift for many future days for children, days   which the treated children, after recovery, will be able to enjoy in the future with their own children in their homes.

The fight against the disease is a challenge not only for the young patients but also for their families. Which is why it is so important that they can be close to each other in this difficult time. We are glad we could help in this by supporting the development of the «Home away from home» in Warsaw — says Jakub Czapigo, Key Account Manager at Guardian Glass».

The house built in Warsaw is the second investment of this type built in Poland by the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The first free family hotel of this type has been operating for over four years at the university paediatric hospital in Krakow’s Prokocim. Press Glass was also a partner of the Krakow project.

In addition to 25 comfortable apartments, a shared kitchen and dining room, living room, recreation area and laundry room, the Warsaw Home away from home as the first in the world a zone with pre-school functions.
It is created on the initiative and thanks to the financial commitment of the Medical University of Warsaw.

In the first stage, Press Glass delivered triple-glazed units for window and facade joinery for the construction of the Warsaw House. They are equipped with Guardian SunGuard® highly selective glass. Products from this line help to create optimally lit interiors and prevent them from overheating in the summer; in winter, they protect rooms against heat loss. In the second stage of construction, Press Glass will provide roof windows and interior glazing.

«The construction of the house is going according to plan, which is to finish it in November this year. Product support from Press Glass and Guardian Glass is extremely important to us. Their highest quality products help to create a real home away from home for the families of children hospitalized in the oncology, transplantology or neonatology ward of the paediatric hospital of the Medical University of Warsaw. We are very happy with this partnership. This cooperation is a source of pride for us. Thank you very much!» — says Katarzyna Nowakowska, Executive Director and Vice President of the Charity Board.

About RMHC Poland/Ronald McDonald Foundation

Keeping families close is the mission statement of Ronald McDonald Foundation. Established in 2002, the charity constitutes a part of Ronald McDonald House Charities, which supports hospitals in 65 countries around the world.

The focus of RMHC work in Poland is preventive health care for children as well as family-centred care during
a child’s illness and hospital treatment. These activities are conducted nationwide, and RMHC Poland is assisted by its Friends — companies, individuals and volunteers.

One of the key Programs of RMHC are Ronald McDonald Houses — comfortable, free of charge hotels for families whose children are undergoing long-term treatment, usually oncological patients. The Houses are located next to paediatric hospitals. The second crucial Program is Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, where families and carers of hospitalized children can use modern facilities: day rooms, laundry, kitchens, sitting rooms, bathrooms.

Oncological prevention is another important area of RMHC Poland activity. The charity operates the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile — a program of free, nationwide ultrasound examinations of children on board of a special vehicle equipped with the best ultrasound machines. Early on this year, the second Care Mobile arrived in Poland. It has recently been cleared for use by authorities and is ready for use any time.

RMHC Poland organizes training for GP’s and family physicians about early cancer detection. The lectures are conducted jointly with IFMSA Poland. Specialized publications for physicians and parents on oncological prevention complement the list of activities in this area.
